We are now looking for an experienced Senior Research Scientist to join Research & Development Team.

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

 

  • Demonstrate best in class safety competency
  • Macromolecular characterization of natural and synthetic polymers in terms of MWD, structure, composition, functionality; understanding and evaluating impact on products performance
  • Develop novel methods for small and large molecules characterization, identification and quantification of targeted compounds using GPC, LC, LC/MS, GC, GC/MS, and other analytical techniques
  • Actively participate in development projects and in technical customer support as needed
  • Coordinate sampling and serve as key analytical contact for internal Kemira customers submitting technical customer service samples
  • Provide technical expertise and support for multi-disciplinary projects related to the development of products for all segments.

What you need

  • Minimum of M.S. degree in Analytical (Bio)Chemistry or related Polymer Science field with 4-6 yrs. experience; Ph.D. with 2-4 yrs. experience.
  • Analytical experience in biopolymer and bio-based materials characterization, quantitative analysis of composition, knowledge on material properties and applicability
  • Deep understanding of different areas of polymer science, new materials development, focused on biobased/renewable materials
  • Experience with a wide array of analytical characterization methods based on Light Scattering together with other spectroscopic detection such as LC, LC/MS, GC, GC/MS, microscopy, and other standard characterization methods for a complete product characterization and development
  • High level of understanding of polymer chemistry but also of independence and originality, creativity, and productivity
  • General knowledge of Deposit Analysis preferred, as it pertains to Paper Manufacturing or specific analytical experience supporting other segments such as Oil& Mining
  • Project management and multi-client prioritization experience preferred
  • Familiarity with intellectual property processes preferred
  • Familiarity with regulations (TSCA, REACH, FDA, BFR) preferred
  • Interpersonal skills: customer orientation, cultural interpersonal effectiveness, communicating with impact
  • Proven teamwork skills in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • Good computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
  • Travel Potential – Minimal (5-10%)  Domestic and Canada
