Title:  Sr. Research/Principal Scientist

We are now looking for an experienced Sr. Research/Principal Scientist for our R&D Center in Atlanta, GA.

What you need:

  • Ph.D. in organic or polymer chemistry with 10 yrs or more industrial experience in the area of polymer synthesis and applications. Experience with modifications and synthesis of water soluble polymer based systems desired

  • Experience with bio-based monomers is strongly desired and familiarity is expected as a minimum.

  • Has been an author or co-authored publications/patents or equivalent.


Competencies and skills required:

  • Has developed expertise in the area of organic and polymer synthesis.

  • Advanced knowledge of analytical, inorganic, organic, polymer, physical chemistry, and/or chemical engineering required.

  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of advanced mathematics (i.e. statistical experimental design and analysis)

  • Has successfully demonstrated the ability to complete large, complex assignments and projects and is able to work independently.

  • Able to effectively communicate scientific results both orally and in written reports demonstrated by external publications.

  • Is capable of working well in a team environment.


Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Required to be an expert in the research areas of focus.
  • Manages project work and independently, plans and executes complex and sometimes novel experimental designs and testing programs. Devises new experiments to test hypotheses and develops novel procedures and applies them to project efforts.
  • Required to develop and understanding of Kemira’s intellectual property, product line, performance advantages and limitations, testing methods, and customer needs.
  • Required to be aware of competitors' strengths and weaknesses; fluent in the competitive patent art and understands the relevance to Kemira’s intellectual property position.
  • Responsible for proposing and developing new technologies and product lines for strategic opportunities to meet customer needs that lead to value added intellectual property.
  • Responsible for contributing to the business and R&D strategy development in the research areas of focus and proposes new R&D projects to R&D and business leadership teams.
  • Responsible for overseeing the activities of other scientist, junior level chemists and technicians.
  • Required to prepares and present written reports, publications and presentations that are concise, clearly understood and contain appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • May be required to travel frequently to customer and/or manufacturing sites to conduct tests
