Title:  Process Engineer - Western Plant Cluster

We are looking for someone to work in the plants on process and project engineering activities.  This will include process improvements and modifications, new project development and implementation, preparing and managing capital projects, and troubleshooting existing process problems. This person will also assist with process safety and management of change for multiple sites.  This position reports to the Engineering Manager, NA Coagulants.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Follow all EHS requirements
  • Manage capital investment projects at multiple sites
  • Oversee and control external engineering teams, activities and deliverables on larger projects or for engineering disciplines outside of Kemira`s internal capabilities.
  • Collaborate with sourcing managers on procurement activities
  • Perform process design:
    • P&IDs & PFDs
    • Production capacity analysis
    • Determine process conditions
    • Write Process Functional Descriptions
    • General Arrangement drawings
    • Sizing and selection of process equipment (tanks, reactors, pumps, valves, piping, instruments, etc.)
    • Selection of appropriate materials of construction
    • Determine equipment/instrument specifications based on Generally Accepted Engineering Practices and Standards and internal Best Practices.
    • Write Process Functional Descriptions
  • Collaborate with plant management on capital projects to ensure proper process design and equipment specification
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing and maintenance
  • Drive continuous improvement of plant manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Assist with all aspects of process safety, including:
    • Management of change (MOC) process
    • Process hazard analysis (PHA) and risk assessment
    • Steward process safety and MOC action items to completion
    • Audit process safety-related policies and systems
    • Conduct pre-start up safety reviews (PSSR)
    • Investigation and resolution of process incidents
  • Assist with creation of SOP’s for new and existing equipment and processes as needed.
  • Work closely with plant personnel to optimize plant processes
  • Maintain plant drawings, equipment & instrument indexes, etc.

                                       

Desired skills and experience:

  • Good Engineering degree level.  Mechanical or Chemical or appropriate subject.
  • Excellent English language capability, verbal, written and reading.
  • 5-7 + yrs (technical) experience in Process Engineering and/or Project Engineering
  • Experience in project management and/or construction management of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience in automated system specifications and functional descriptions an asset.
  • Trained PHA Facilitator an asset
  • Strong background in Continuous Improvement, proven track record.
  • Team Leadership advantage.
  • Ability to travel regularly (up to 2 weeks/month) at other coagulant sites and Global travelling capability for collaboration and occasion meeting requirements
