Kemira’s Industry & Water - Oil & Gas segment provides a unique combination of innovative chemicals and application knowledge that improves process efficiency and yield in oil, gas and metals recovery.  We are now looking for a Sr. Applications Specialist, Completions and Stimulation to support the commercial development activities within the Oil & Gas customer segment.  This position is located in Midland, Texas, or possibly out of our Houston, TX office, but would require frequent overnight travel to Midland and other activity centers. 


This role will focus specifically on supporting Kemira's business activities associated with well completions and stimulation, also referred to as hydraulic fracturing.  Considerable experience and applications expertise in this area are required, especially related to the use of friction reducers, HVFRs, the carry and placement of proppant, as well as the use and applications of scale control chemistries and biocides.  The key responsibilities include:  


  • Identify and shape customer & industry unmet needs and understand requirements, positioning Kemira to provide solutions for these needs.
  • Understand Kemira existing chemistries (friction reducers, HVFRs, biocides, scale control), and leverage this knowledge to meet the customer needs.
  • Translate the customer's needs into new product ideas & opportunities.  Present these new product ideas & opportunities to Business Development, Marketing, and Research & Development for market analysis, selection and prioritization.
  • Promote Kemira products and their applications to producers, pumpers, and other partners in our value chain.
  • Understand industry accepted testing protocols that meet the customer's needs and work with R&D to develop in house application capabilities.
  • Develop solutions in the lab to meet customer needs, with a basic understanding of Kemira existing chemistries.
  • Perform lab and field testing and demonstration to provide solutions for industry needs, while developing and establish in-house application testing capabilities, with an understanding of industry accepted testing protocols.
  • Perform field trial work, scale-ups, or product start up support.


What you need:

  • Minimum four-year Bachelor’s degree preferably in Petroleum Engineering, preferably specializing in completions design / fracturing engineering, but willing to consider other Engineering and technical degrees if accompanied by extensive field experience.
  • Four years of direct experience with hydraulic fracturing and the chemical applications associated with it, especially the sound understanding and demonstration of field practices used in this discipline
  • Knowledge of oil & gas applications and testing of chemicals in fracturing/and or drilling processes required
  • Chemical feed equipment experience a plus
  • Good understanding of chemistry
  • Previous support and project delivery in the oil & gas field desired
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written
  • Spanish or Portuguese helpful
  • Ability/Willingness to travel 60-70% of time, depending on home location (Midland will require less overnight travel than Houston, San Antonio, other locations)
