Title:  Director, Sales, P&P, Southeast US

Kemira’s Paper segment has unique expertise in applying chemicals and supporting pulp and paper producers to innovate and constantly improve their operational efficiency and end product quality.


We are seeking a Director, Sales, Pulp & Paper, Southeast US for the Americas region. This role will lead a group of District Managers in meeting company and district goals in sales revenue and profitability.  This position will be based in the Southeast region and will report to the Senior Vice President, Commercial, Pulp & Paper, Americas.


The main responsibilities and accountabilities include:


  • Ensure South East Region sales (revenue, growth, profitability) to meet targets.
  • Proactively manage region’s direct sales costs to meet the cost-to-serve targets.
  • Lead and support District Managers and their assigned sales team to achieve designated sales objectives.
  • Develop and implement sales plans, activities and campaigns.
  • Develop and implement regional tactical marketing plans in cooperation with Marketing Communications team.
  • Prepare sales forecast, budgets and targets according to segment and Americas guidelines.
  • Monitor and steer revenue, performance and costs against forecast to identify problem areas and adapt procedures or re-allocate resources.
  • Negotiate sales with existing and potential customers and actively liase with customers.
  • Contribute to the development of sales, customer retention and pricing and distribution strategies for area of responsibility through provision of market intelligence and customer information.
  • Perform personnel and administrative tasks which include hiring, performance management, career development discussions, salary administration, expense review and approval.
  • Serve as a participating member of the P&P Commercial Americas regional management team. 
  • Maintain relationships with key customer corporate management and top mill management to ensure sales performance against customer expectations
  • Promote and comply with federal, state, corporate and customer health, safety and environmental policies including training and accident/incident reporting.
  • Collaborate with other Regional Directors and P&P Americas management team

What you need:

  • Four year Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Chemical Engineering, Pulp and Paper Science or other related technical degree: MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant leadership experience
  • 10+ years of previous relevant Commercial business leadership experience with P&L responsibility
  • Extensive knowledge in commercial operations
  • Extensive relevant business knowledge
  • Successful track record from sales management
  • Existing network within South East Pulp & Paper manufacturing end customer base
  • Strong driver of new sales initiatives, “hunter” capability and leader of “hunter” team
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated leadership and management ability
  • Ability to demonstrate functional understanding of internal processes including order fulfillment, pricing management, inventory forecasting, and equipment ordering
  • Understanding of the papermaking process and grades
  • Ability to develop effective chemical program recommendations and proposals, including self directed performance of necessary “field based bench studies” (Britt Jar, foam cell, etc.)
  • Ability to perform statistical data analysis to evaluate program performance
  • Demonstrated ability to sell value (above market margins)
  • Demonstrated ability to increase Net Contribution $ of several districts over several years
  • Understanding of financial reports
  • Sound business logic
  • Ability to demonstrate a global perspective  of “Kemira First” resulting in minimal sub-optimization
  • Ability to add value to the process of developing an Americas and Global strategy
  • Ability to convert the strategy into a cohesive and possibly complex Business plan that is implemented by regional and district sales plan
  • Ability to disperse limited field capital to maximize ROCE
  • Good computer skills with Microsoft applications Word and Excel
  • Experience with business management systems, ideally SAP
