We are now looking for an experienced Pulp and Paper Research Scientist for our Atlanta, GA location

 

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

 

  • Conducting the design of experimental plans to screen new products and technologies targeted at satisfying customer needs.
  • Development of application screening techniques to deliver on more representative results applicable to customer specific needs.
  • Responsible for generation of data to support RFP requests for specific customers
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct laboratory tests to assess physical/chemical properties and performance of materials in Pulp and Paper applications
  • Assist in installation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of specialized equipment designed for pulp and paper applications. Identify and develop testing methodology to support process and product development.
  • Design custom test procedures, and identify or build custom equipment to test material and product attributes to validate features and benefits of new technologies.
  • Preparation and presentation of written reports, publications and presentations that are concise, clearly understood and contain appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Responsible for contributing to the business and R&D strategy development in the research areas of focus, and proposing new R&D projects to R&D and business leadership teams.
  • Actively managing and executing assigned work and proposing new work plans.
  • Support planning project work in a variety of areas.
  • Responsible for routinely interacting with customers and discussing both fundamental technical content as well as applications related subject matter.
  • Some travel to customer and/or manufacturing sites will be required.
  • Potential for field trial support.

What you need: 

 

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry/Engineering with +2 years industrial experience or
  • B.S. in Chemistry/Engineering with +5 years industrial experience

 

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Proven track record of product development and applications testing.
  • Fundamental understanding and hands-on experiences of Applications testing of process and functional chemicals for papermaking, particularly in the wet end area including as strength resins, sizing agents, retention/drainage polymers.
  • QA/QC knowledge and manufacturing process knowledge a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Pulp and Paper. Paper machine experience is a plus.
  • Proven success contributing to larger assignments for complex projects while working with more experienced personnel.
  • Ability to work in time driven fashion, often with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative to address issues and proactively find solutions.
  • Good communication skills – written and oral.
  • Must have key focus on safety and the ability to work in a safe fashion unsupervised
  • Good interpersonal skills – able to work in a multifunctional team environment.
  • Possess good Customer interaction skills.
  • Ability to seek out external funding for sponsored research would be an asset.
