We're now looking for a Process Engineer, Automation to manage our process automation activities for Kemira’s Chemical manufacturing facility in Marietta, Georgia.  In this role, you will be involved in control strategy design, development of control software, as well as identification of process improvement opportunities through process control.  This role will also prioritize implementation of automation work, and manage, as a team leader, the work of other automation resources including site engineering, plant technicians, and contractors for the facility.

 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Take ownership and management of the Distributed Control Systems for the Marietta, Ga, site.  These systems include Siemens Simatic PCS7, Simatic Batch, WEB App, SIS, PH/IS, and the AVEVA/OSI PI system.
  • Maintain a plan to support and sustain process automation assets for the facilities (system upgrade planning, perform system back-ups for recovery and disaster recovery).
  • Serve as systems administrator for the process control area network.
  • Support identification and implementation of required cyber-security measures.
  • Serve as Process Automation Owner for the site facilities – taking full accountability for the automation improvement program.
  • Identify process automation improvement opportunities and provide value assessments and prioritization
  • Support the Marietta site day-to-day operations to meet business goals.  This will include gaining basic knowledge of the unit operations as well as the ability to develop software for the DCS systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement of process automation performance metrics through alarm management, manual intervention reduction, and Safety Instrumented System trip monitoring, correction, and reduction.
  • Design and develop creative and effective process control strategies (SFC’s / Batch Automation) to optimize plant operations.
  • Document and maintain a prioritized work list for process automation improvements for the site.
  • Serve as the primary process automation representative for the plant for all capital projects  involving process control changes.
  • Manage the work of automation resources allocated to the Marietta site (which may include E&I technicians supporting Preventive Maintenance or Project Activities as well as external contractors such as Electricians and Integrators).
  • Assure Safe & Unplanned Event-free implementation of process automation projects.
  • Manage and provide guidance in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) for Layers of Protection through Process Hazard Analysis and RISK Assessments.
  • Maintain all process information systems / historians’ site-specific applications for the plant and develop new applications for Process Information.
  • Coordinate and conduct Process Automation related training for applicable personnel on the site utilizing simulation and sandbox development demonstrations.
  • Maintain operation of site security systems (Cameras / Access Controls).
  • Maintain Automation Related CAD documentation (Automation Hardware/Networks, LOOP Sheets, Electrical Elementaries)
  • Work with peers (locally, regionally and across Kemira) in the technology group to share knowledge and ideas as well as develop standards and best practices.

 

 What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree (Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical / Instrumentation Certification is preferred). 
  • Siemens PCS-7 Experience is required.
  • Previous experience in process automation design / development, implementation, and checkout is preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in either process automation or manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at one time.
  • Familiarity with plant operations as well as project work in the process control discipline.
  • Highly motivated and results-driven individual with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with cross functional teams, engineering groups, plant operations, plant maintenance, and automation-electrical contractors.
  • Strong organizational skills.

 

Critical Success: 

  • Strong technical skills and experience or aptitude in process automation and instrumentation.
  • Ability and desire to develop a thorough understanding of the manufacturing process.
  • Ability to partner with engineers, maintenance E&I technicians, and operators.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to apply capital project work processes which involve process automation solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot process control logic in a live plant environment and in simulation.
  • Keep up-to-date on process control and process information technology advances.
  • Partner with control systems vendors, contractors, and preferred Integrators.
  • Role does not involve travel.

The starting salary range for consideration for this position is $95,000 to $126,000 per year with opportunities for performance-based bonuses. The actual starting salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to relevant employment history & experience, skill set/competencies, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs.  We also offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid time off, life/disability insurance and a 401k retirement plan (which includes a company match).
