This role executes all assigned work safely, effectively, and efficiently within the general scope of the mechanic role. Provides feedback on preventative maintenance that might improve the process and notes additional work required on inspected equipment. Responds to emergency or unplanned work as needed, including callouts. Works on plant modifications including work on capital improvements. Participates in the operation of plant utility systems.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Follow all HSE and Quality system policies and reporting requirements applicable to the position
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment including pumps, seals, motors, mixers, steam traps, fans, boilers, compressors, and fork lifts
- Comply with all safe work practices, use proper PPE, fall protection equipment, etc.
- Complete preventative and troubleshooting maintenance work and provide feedback on any issues
- Assist in modifying/fabricating equipment as necessary for capital projects
- Complete all required documentation as part of work routines
- Oversee the work of specialized contract services such as boiler inspections, chiller inspections, etc.
- Participate in operations and maintenance of plant utility systems such as the boiler, chillers, compressed air systems
- Paint and perform carpenter work as needed
- Maintain housekeeping standards in all work areas.
Working Experience and Education:
- Journeyman level in pipefitting or equal demonstrated skill
- Basic welding (fabrication)
- Energetic self-starter who interacts well with various disciplines (e.g. operations, EHSQ, management) to safely and efficiently solve mechanical and process issues
- Forklift, scissor lift, and boom lift certification is an asset
- Basic computer skills are needed. SAP knowledge is an asset
- Comfortable working either with a team or with minimal supervision
- Ability to read, write, and follow written instructions
- Previous experience working in a chemical plant would be an asset
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent work around moving machinery.
- Moderate standing, walking, squatting, and bending, work on ladders and at heights, exposure to dust, fumes or chemical irritants, and use of manual dexterity.
- Minimal sitting, motor vehicle operation, and work in contained areas. Must be able to work days and occasional overtime.
- Must Frequently Lift 20 Pounds
- Must Occasionally Lift 50 Pounds
